Could you be next year’s Cribbage Queen or Kurling King?
I was overwhelmed to see the amazing turn out of British Polio Fellowship members at the 2018 National Indoor Games in Leicester recently. As National Chairman, I would like to offer congratulations to everyone who won a medal and encourage people to join us ahead of next year’s games, where the charity will mark its 80th anniversary. Nearly 200 competitors had a wonderful weekend packed full of games, and we saw our fair share of winners from various regions. Many friendships were formed and re-kindled.
The North West region triumphed overall, with Yorkshire and Northern Ireland second and third, but competitors from all regions managed an individual top four finish in the 11 games played. Bowls; Boccia; Darts; and Kurling are played alongside Scrabble; Cribbage; Dominoes; and Draughts. If you had Polio and now live with Post Polio Syndrome (PPS), join a Branch and who knows, you could be a star in 2019.
People like Mary Berry; Ade Adepitan; the late Lord Snowdon; and reportedly Professor Stephen Hawking – according to recent national media articles – are proof that Polio doesn’t have to define you and your life. But if you’ve had Polio and now have PPS, and you’re struggling to cope with the winter weather each year; benefits assesments; or you simply need a friendly ear on the end of a phone, we’re here to help. Visit www.britishpolio.org.uk or call us on 0800 043 1935 and we can put you in touch with your local Branch.
