On Saturday 12th July, The British Polio Fellowship is hosting a Care and Leisure Conference at the Quality Hotel, to provide details of the help available to those living with the late effects of Polio and Post Polio Syndrome (PPS), plus stands hosted by various suppliers. Organised by the charity’s Yorkshire Region the event begins at 10:00am and ends at 4:00pm.
Several companies will have stands at the event on the day, including Wiltshire Farm Foods, Cup Cake Baking and the Orthotics and Aids company Body Shop and many more. The event is open to non-members, who can expect a very warm welcome.
“As the name suggests, this is an event designed to offer help and support to our members and others in the community with the late effects of Polio and PPS, but it also intended as a fun event too,” said Jan Taylor of The British Polio Fellowship’s Yorkshire Region. “It’s a great opportunity to meet others living with the late effects of Polio and PPS in a relaxed and informal way.”
PPS can be an extremely difficult condition for people to face and it is important that they do not feel as though they are facing it alone. The British Polio Fellowship was established 75 years ago to supporting those living with the late effects of Polio and now around 120,000 people living with PPS. This event is an opportunity for members to enjoy a day out, share laughter and learn about help and benefits available to them.
“Life with the late effects of Polio and PPS is hard but it’s not all doom and gloom,” added Jan. “These events are a means to show members and non-members alike there is support available and like anyone else we enjoy our social events. For those facing difficult economic times, we can also offer practical advice on the support available locally and it is always good to swap advice and tips.”
The Yorkshire Region of The British Polio Fellowship undertakes a range of activities and events for members and non-members alike. Prior to the conference, the next event in the region will be the annual shoot taking place at the Pontefract Air Rifle Club on 31st May. Anyone interested in becoming involved with the Yorkshire Region, or wishing to find out more about this or any other event can contact Jan direct on 07592045536.
