The British Polio Fellowship is welcoming three new faces to its Watford offices giving a welcome boost to the Support Services Department. Ahmad Butt has been appointed Head of the department and he will be working closely with Yvonne Wright and Mumtaz Shah who are the new Support Services Officers. The Support Services department is there to support members of the charity by offering information, advice and support to help them to live fully integrated, active and fulfilling lives.
Ted Hill MBE CEO of the British Polio Fellowship comments: “This is an exciting development for the Support Services department as well as the British Polio Fellowship as a whole. I am thrilled to welcome Ahmad, Yvonne and Mumtaz and I hope their time with us will be fulfilling and full of success. I know first-hand the benefits that can come with working for such a great cause. To watch your work impact so positively on the lives of our members and their families brings a lot of personal gratification”.
“The support services department is something we really want to develop this year and we hope that the appointment of these individuals will allow us to effectively use our resources to assist our members in the best possible ways.”
Ahmad Butt who will be working as Head of Support Services is the former Director of IPR advice centre in Islington and prior to this he was the Manager of the Barnet CAB Money Advice Unit. As well as this, Ahmad was a guest lecturer at the London School of Economics from 1997 to 2010 on their LL.M graduate insolvency programme. He also brings experience from commercial claims firms and solicitors practices, it is clear Ahmad will be a real asset to the organisation. He has already begun by reviewing new ways the British Polio Fellowship can organise Pro-Bono representation for its members at various Tribunal appeals and court hearings.
Mumtaz Shah has previously worked as a Customer Support Officer for the Action for Children charity. Since working in the charity sector for the past few years, Mumtaz has built up a wealth of useful experience to bring to the charity. He is excited to embark on this new challenge and is looking forward to learning more about Polio and Post Polio Syndrome (PPS).
Mumtaz explains: “I am focused on researching the latest PPS related information and making sure our members have a platform to discuss any thoughts with us. As a pretty much brand new support services team, I am extremely committed to bringing new and fresh ideas to the team so our members have all the resources they need.”
After previously working at the Watford Community Housing Trust, Yvonne Wright worked as a Customer Service Officer. Yvonne has worked for the past 7 years in the voluntary sector for two charities. In addition, on a weekly basis she works as a counsellor for a mental health charity and hopes the skills she has learnt here will be transferable to her new post.
She comments: “I have been in post for a few weeks now and have been significantly inspired by the calls that I have received from our members and have learnt a vast amount already. I am motivated to expand my knowledge of PPS.”
