Concern for polio vaccine if Robert Kennedy Jr is confirmed as Trump's new US health secretary

Last week a number of the American newspapers featured stories about Aaron Siri, a key legal advisor to Robert Kennedy Jr, Donald Trump’s pick for health secretary.

Aaron Siri is supporting Robert F. Kennedy Jr. in selecting senior health officials for the Trump transition team. He has a significant history of advocating against vaccines, despite their critical role in saving millions of lives and preserving public health.

He has reportedly participated in interviews alongside Kennedy, questioning candidates for key health positions about their views on vaccines.

Kennedy, a prominent vaccine skeptic, has publicly stated that he does not intend to revoke vaccine approvals if confirmed by the U.S. Senate as Health Secretary. However, concerns are growing about the Trump administration's potential health policies due to Kennedy's association with Siri, who is deeply entrenched in anti-vaccine advocacy.

Siri’s legal actions extend beyond polio vaccines. He has spearheaded lawsuits seeking to suspend or withdraw approval for the hepatitis B vaccine and has petitioned the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to halt the distribution of 13 additional vaccines.

President Trump recently stated that Kennedy might investigate alleged links between vaccines and autism, hinting that his prospective Health Secretary could pursue a thoroughly debunked conspiracy theory. Despite overwhelming scientific consensus refuting any connection between childhood vaccines and autism, Kennedy has repeatedly propagated this misinformation.
