Barbara Woods Awards 2025
The Barbara Wood Citizens Awards are among the highest honours presented by the British Polio Fellowship.
Each year, two awards are given:
- One to a polio survivor, and
- One to a supporter who has not had polio
These awards recognise individuals who have gone above and beyond in their dedication, compassion, and service to the Fellowship and its members.
Nominations come directly from within the Fellowship — from those who see first-hand the extraordinary impact these individuals make.
The 2025 award winners were announced at the Annual General Meeting and are listed below.
2025 Winners

Polio Category Winner – Posthumous
Linda Evers
Linda Evers was a long-serving Trustee and a dedicated member of the Leeds Branch whose contribution to the Fellowship spanned decades.
From joining as a young member in 1949, Linda went on to serve her branch and the Yorkshire Region with distinction, most recently as Treasurer. Her professional expertise as a VAT inspector and trainer for HMRC gave her the financial insight and rigour that made her a valued voice on the national Board of Trustees.
Linda lived with the effects of polio from early childhood, and her compassion, warmth, and deep commitment made a lasting difference to members across the country. She gave tirelessly of her time, knowledge, and experience, and her dedication will be remembered with profound gratitude.

Non-Polio Category Winners
Susan Kay Attwood & Les Attwood
Susan and Les Attwood have been central to the successful running of the Kurling event at the Indoor Games for many years. Without seeking recognition, they arrive each year fully prepared, handling every challenge with professionalism and ensuring that participants feel supported and included.
Their knowledge of Kurling, their calm approach, and their genuine care for members make them stand out as exceptional supporters of the Fellowship. Their contribution to their branch and region also cannot be overstated.
